Florida Atlantic opens the 2008 home season this Saturday at 4 p.m. against UAB. "Rally Alley" will be in full swing along with special promotions including "Youth Day" and a salute to the soldiers. The game will be carried by WFTL 640 AM in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties and will air on WPSL 1590 in the Port St. Lucie area. The broadcast may also be heard at www.fausports.com.

The Florida Atlantic University football team continued preparations for the season opening game against No. 10 University of Texas with a two and half hour practice at the Tom Oxley practice field. Tight End Jamari Grant was a pass receiving presence today with several confident catches in traffic, as quarterback Rusty Smith continued to throw crisp passes.

The Florida Atlantic University football team returned to the practice field on Sunday for a lighter than normal practice in preparation for the season opener on August 30 against the University of Texas. Sunday's practice was without shoulder pads and was almost entirely team drills. The offense worked on situations against the blitz, first down, and third and long situations. The defense worked on a number of plays against the scout team simulating Texas' offense. Practice concluded with the first and second team offenses and defenses working a two-minute drill.

One week before the Florida Atlantic University football team heads to Austin to face the University of Texas, the Owls held their final scrimmage of the season behind the Tom Oxley Athletic Center. The third scrimmage was a situational scrimmage, a chance for the Owls to run a full dress rehearsal before the August 30 game against the Longhorns.

Despite the rain which fell earlier in the day, the Florida Atlantic University football team continued pre-season training on Thursday outside the Tom Oxley Athletic Center. After Wednesday's second intra-squad scrimmage, the focus on Thursday shifted from training for the regular season to beginning the preparation for Texas. The Owls went through seven-on-seven and team drills against the scout teams simulating the Longhorn offense and defense for the first time.

The Florida Atlantic University defense greatly improved in the second scrimmage on Wednesday outside the Oxley Center. Under rainy conditions, the Owl defense pressured quarterbacks Rusty Smith, Jeff VanCamp and Graham Wilbert often en route to a first half shutout and a 29-14 win over the offense.

FAU Football 101 Successful

Florida Atlantic University hosted the 2008 FAU Football 101 clinic in conjunction with Fanfest on Saturday, August 16. It was the second time that FAU has hosted such an event, the first in 2001. A total of 35 participants learned the X's and O's of offense, defense and play calling. Sport medicine and football equipment were also covered during the clinic.
