The Florida Atlantic University men's golf team is in 12th place after the first round of play at the Sun Belt Conference Championship. The Owls shot a 304 on the first day of the three-day tournament on the par-72, 7,094-yard Robert Jones at the Shoals course.

Will Cottle and Kelly McHugh lead the Owls after shooting a 75 in round one. Cottle had three birdies on the day, but was hurt by a double bogey and a triple bogey. McHugh was consistent throughout the round with one birdie and three bogeys to finish at +3.

The tournament runs through Wednesday in Muscle Shoals, AL.
