FAU to Host Miken Invitational

BOCA RATON, FL - After winning a home tournament for the first time since 2004, the Florida Atlantic softball team will look for another title this weekend. FAU will be hosting the Miken Invitational this weekend. The Owls defeated Illinois 3-2 to win the Miken Classic Championship last weekend. Melissa Moore was named Tournament MVP. Moore hit .333 and had a fielding percentage of 1.000 for the weekend. FAU head coach Joan Joyce enters the weekend two wins away from 600 career victories. Eastern Illinois University will be the Owls' first opponent on Friday, at 6 p.m. The Panthers (3-4) won two of three games at the Chattanooga Frost Classic last weekend. FAU will face Towson at 8 p.m. on Friday. Towson University (4-5) is led by senior outfielder Nina Navarro, who is batting .407 on the season.
Saturday, the Owls will face Florida Gulf Coast University at 6 p.m. and Southeast Missouri State University at 8 p.m. FGCU (21-6) comes to Boca Raton having won 17 of its last 18 games after starting the season 4-5. The Eagles' pitching staff has been dominant to this point in the season. Freshman Morgan Campen is 7-1 with a 1.21 ERA and senior Racheal Edinger is 8-2 with an ERA of 1.26. Southeast Missouri State (7-5) has been on an offensive roll recently, scoring 23 runs in its last three games. Bethune Cookman, which finished fourth at last weekend's Miken Classic, returns this weekend to round out the field.
