Softball Team Continues Conference Play

April 22, 2008

BOCA RATON, FL - The Florida Atlantic University softball team will return to Boca Raton for a three-game set against Middle Tennessee State University, after splitting its two series against the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and the University of Louisiana-Monroe. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 6 p.m., and a single game is slated for Sunday, April 27 at 1 p.m.. All games will be played at the FAU Softball Stadium, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus.

Saturday's doubleheader against the Blue Raiders will be the Owls' first home game since defeating Troy University 2-1 in 11 innings on April 6. FAU went 3-3 last week, losing all three games to Louisiana-Lafayette before sweeping Louisiana-Monroe over the weekend. This weekend's games will be the final full series at home for FAU. The team's only remaining home game will be the finale of a roundabout three-game series against Florida International University on Saturday, May 3.

The Owls lead the all-time series against MTSU 5-1, including taking four of five meetings last year. FAU took two of three games during the regular season series in Murfreesboro and swept a doubleheader at the conference tournament on their way to winning three games on the final day to take the title.

The Blue Raiders (18-25, 9-8) have won their last three Sun Belt series, taking two of three games from the University of North Texas, Louisiana-Monroe and FIU. MTSU is led by outfielder Corrie Abel. Abel leads the team in batting average, runs, hits, slugging and on base percentage. She is also the only everyday player who has yet to record a defensive error.

Saturday is also Little League Softball Day at FAU, as players from local Little Leagues are invited to attend. Those players who wear their jerseys will be admitted for $1. There also will be a meet and greet session with FAU players and coaches between games.

Live stats and play-by-play of Saturday's game will be available at fausports.com.
