Joan Joyce Inducted into Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame

Nov. 2, 2007

BOCA RATON, FL -- Florida Atlantic University head softball and women's golf coach Joan Joyce was recently inducted into the Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame at a ceremony held in Hartford, Connecticut. It is the eighth Hall of Fame that has inducted Joyce, who was born in Waterbury, Connecticut.

"It really is remarkable to be inducted considering that women like Katherine Hepburn and Harriet Beecher Stowe are already members," Joyce said.

This year's class focused on athletics in celebration of the 35th anniversary of Title IX, which required that women be given equal access to athletics. Legendary figure skater Dorothy Hamill and golf pioneer Glenna Collett Vare also were inducted.

The Connecticut Women's Hall of Fame was inaugurated in 1994 to "showcase the contributions that Connecticut women ...have made to their communities, the state and the nation."
